Flood Monitoring and Safety Plan

The flooding tragedy in the Kerrville area last summer was devastating and very scary. Our hearts are with all of the camp community and families impacted. We know that kids need camp experiences. John Knox Ranch is committed to camper safety.

The implementation of the new camper safety law, passed following the tragedy in summer 2025, is currently being debated by Texas Department of State Health Services. As an American Camp Association accredited camp, John Knox Ranch is well-suited to meet these new requirements with a few adjustments to our site, training, and policies. Once the final guidelines are set by the Texas Dept of State Health Services, John Knox Ranch will finalize our plan. We will share our Emergency Action Plan on our website as well as with any preexisting camper registrations. At the link below, you will find resources and FAQs regarding the steps we take to keep your campers safe.

  • "I have zero hesitation to send my children back to John Knox Ranch, as I am very confident in their ability to handle my son's physical and emotional safety."

    Camper Mom
  • "They are given the freedom to run, explore, play, ask questions, and discover their own spirituality. While at camp, our children learn responsibility and scripture in a way that is inviting and fun. I know that when I'm sending my kiddos to JKR, they will come back better in one way or the other than when I dropped them off."
    Sarah Hernandez
    Camper Parent
  • "Thank you so much for creating a space that is so needed by kids... a place of acceptance, fun, celebrating being whoever you are, challenging yourself, and discovering how much stronger we all are when we lift each other up."

  • My son had an amazing time. He was shining at pickup and continues to share all of his experiences and friendships he made. He is looking forward to next summer!"
    Camper Mom
  • "Her counselor was AMAZING at helping my daughter fit in and feel included and loved. It was very obvious that her counselor cared about the goals of camp and worked hard to help all the kids feel how special John Knox Ranch is."
    Camper Mom
  • "Our camper is shy and introverted. It was a big deal for her to be away from home for 6 days. She returned enthusiastic about her time at camp and rambled on and on about the things she did and the friends she made! It was awesome!

    Amanda
    Camper Mom
  • "Our camper is also a very picky eater and she said all the food at camp was delicious! Her eating was one thing I was really worried about, but now that she's home she's even more open to variety in our food!"

    Camper Mom
  • "He loved every minute of the activities. He liked the food and made new friends. Being remembered from last year made him feel good. Thank you to everyone involved for making my grandson feel special and helping him have a good, wholesome time. He's already talking about next year. You are a blessing to every child that attends."
