Summer Camp

Leaders in Training (LIT) Camps

Spend the night camp for children entering 10th - 12th grade. Our servant leader training program prepares young adults for camp leadership positions at John Knox Ranch. The curriculum and activities focus on developing self-awareness and servant leadership skills that will benefit your camper throughout life.
Our LIT (Leaders in Training) Program is in it's 30th year of developing leadership skills in young people. LIT camps are open to rising 10th and 12th graders. LITs spend intentional time learning and practicing leadership skills. The LITs also embark on an adventure like a river trip in kayaks or a trip to a partner summer camp to observe their program. The Leaders in Training program is aimed at preparing campers to become Junior Counselors and Summer Staff but it is so much more than that.

JKR is a place where all are welcome; where identity is formed through self-awareness and service, where differences are celebrated; where children grow into counselors, counselors become leaders, and leaders bring patience, inclusion, and excellent servant leadership to their own professions and communities. Even if your camper has no interest in ever serving on summer staff at JKR they will learn soft skills like communication and increased self awareness that will serve them well throughout their life.

Food
Food is part of our program! We are proud to serve homemade, delicious food at every meal. Your camper is going to ask you to cook our recipes once they get home.

We provide snacks and deserts as well. Please do not send or mail candy or food of any kind. Food in the cabins attracts ants and other critters.
Activities

LITs also participate in special programming like increased time on the ropes course, service projects, night swims, kayak trips down the Blanco River, etc.

Swim Checks
On the first day of camp, we do a "swim check" for each camper to assess his/her ability and comfort in the water. If campers aren't yet comfortable or strong enough to swim, we require that they wear a life-jacket. All campers wear life-jackets when canoeing and certified lifeguards are always present and on duty for all water activities.
Scholarships
Financial assistance is available. Together with our donors we are committed to making sure that financial challenges will never be the reason a child can't attend camp. The scholarship application can be found in the registration portal.
Is LIT right for my camper?
Our servant leader training program prepares young adults for camp leadership positions at John Knox Ranch. The curriculum and activities focus on developing self-awareness and servant leadership skills that will benefit your camper throughout life.

If your camper is new to JKR or summer camping, they need to attend a one-week session before registering for a longer session (10 day or 2 week). This will help ensure that we are a good fit for your camper and that they won't need to leave a longer session early which can be very frustrating for families.
