Self Guided Activities

During your stay at John Knox Ranch, take advantage of our self guided activities like: visiting our Labyrinth and meditation garden, hiking (look out point has a great view!), bird watching, our self guided nature trail, mountain biking with your own bike, disc golf, catch and release fishing, and more. Our self-guided activities are available for overnight guests only. We are not open for individual or family day use.
Self Guided Activity Options
Labyrinth and Meditation Garden
  • Walk our Labyrinth as a spiritual practice or an opportunity to quiet your mind through walking meditation.
  • Unlike a maze, a Labyrinth has no wrong turns or dead ends.
  • Continue your reflection on one of the benches nearby
  • Located a short walk from the Camp Office
Hiking the JKR Nature Preserve
  • Enjoy a hike through the 200 acre JKR Hill Country Nature Preserve
  • There is a map in your welcome packet and more at the office
  • "Look Out Point" has beautiful views if you are up for the climb
Bird Watching
  • Enjoy spotting many native resident and migrant birds
  • Check our feeders and along water sources like Carpers Creek
Mountain Biking
  • Explore our 200 acre nature preserve on bike!
  • Bring your own bike and helmet and hit the trails
Self Guided Nature Hike
  • Use our paper guide to follow our "alphabet" nature trail
  • Use the map to find trail markers with cooresponding interpretive nature and histroy facts.
Disc Golf
  • Try out our Disc Golf Course!
  • The first tee is located near the outdoor pavilion
  • Bring your own discs or check one out from the office. Please be sure to return all borrowed discs.
  • We have JKR Discs for sale in our store!
Fishing in Carpers Creek or the Blanco River
  • Bring your own fishing gear
  • Please catch, photo, and release only
Make a Camp Fire
  • If you are spending the night, enjoy a campfire!
  • Please build fires in designated campfire rings only
  • There is firewood at each cabin and you are welcome to collect your own
Nature Play Area
  • A great option for kids to play and create!
  • Large sandbox
  • Boulders and logs for climbing
  • Wooden blocks for fort building
  • Located next to the Meeting House on the east side
