I am humbled and honored to serve as Executive Director of John Knox Ranch. I grew up in the Presbyterian Church (UPC San Antonio) and graduated from Austin College. After college, I taught 2nd grade in Austin for a few years before moving with my wife to Charlotte, NC where I established a nonprofit project, Friendship Gardens. I have spent the last four years as Executive Director of the Nature Discovery Center in Houston.
My wife Emily is a JKR alumna, an ordained Presbyterian pastor, and has practiced ministry in a church setting and as a hospital chaplain. Together we have two boys, Jack Henry (age 8) and Ross (age 5), who might be the most excited in the family about living at the Ranch.
As a camper, counselor, and upper leadership staff, I have experienced firsthand the transformational, loving, Christian community of John Knox Ranch. JKR is a space where all are welcome; where identity is formed through self-awareness and service, not competition and comparison; where differences are celebrated, not used to divide; where children grow into counselors, counselors become leaders, and leaders bring patience and inclusion to their own communities. It is a place where love, acceptance, and grace flow freely.
The average cost of a week-long American Camping Association accredited overnight camp is $768.* Transformative camp experiences are not reserved only for those who can afford it.
John Knox Ranch works hard to keep its weekly price affordable at $495 for summer 2019. Beyond that, the JKR Summer Camp Scholarship Fund helps ensure that all kids have a place at camp. You can grow this ministry by making a gift today.
This holiday season give the gift of camp to a future camper who otherwise would not be able to attend. Click the donate button below. Please give generously. JKR campers are the present and future of the church.
