Announcing Open House at John Knox Ranch, March 10, 2018, 10:00 am ‘till closing campfire. John Knox Ranch, summer camp and retreat center is a nonprofit, Presbyterian, outdoor ministry located just 10 minutes outside of Wimberley. We, at John Knox Ranch, invite the entire Hill Country Community to come on out and tour the Ranch and experience what our beautiful 300 acre wildlife preserve, camp, retreat and event venue has to offer! Participate in traditional camp activities and experience the sacred spaces that have brought life-changing experiences to generations of youths attending our summer camps.
Open House activities kick off at 10:00 am with catch and keep Rainbow Trout fishing! (Limit 5 per person). Special thanks to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for stocking Carper’s Creek with the Rainbow Trout. At any hour, on the hour, guests can jump on the hayride and tour the Ranch, see the campsites, meeting venues, summer camp facilities, the beautiful Blanco River frontage and visit our new dining hall. Stop off at the arts and crafts building to participate in ongoing projects, join a guided hike and fossil hunt, and don’t miss the archery range where you can hone your apple splitting skills! Guided hikes, arts activities and archery are scheduled throughout the day at 11:00, 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
At noon, we will gather on the grounds by the Meeting House for a group picnic, be sure to bring your brown bag lunch, or sneak away to find your own quiet spot. After a full day of Trout fishing, tours, archery, arts and hiking, we will close out with a gathering about the campfire and share the great tradition of s’mores! We are looking forward to a fun day and an opportunity to meet and make lots of new friends.
The Meeting House will be Open House Headquarters, with information booths on summer camp, events and retreats, the new public access day-use policy and special access opportunities for members and Friends of John Knox Ranch. Limited refreshments will be available all day at the Meeting House and Dining Hall. Parking will be directed through the main gates upon arrival.
